All my favourite towns, with the exception of New York City, Salzburg and Oxford, are located in the East.

I’ve always been fascinated by the East. Cradle of the world’s oldest civilisations. From learning about ancient Persia – a culture that shaped our world, to Ottoman and Mughal empires, to the Islamic Golden Age. From the many stories of the One Thousand and One Nights and Shahnameh to reading about Mesopotamia, ancient India, China and Egypt. Land of the rising sun. Cultures that paved the way for Europe’s renaissance.

You will likely find me on the streets of Dhaka, Isfahan, Samarkand, Istanbul, Shiraz, Medina, Agra, Fez, Casablanca, Lahore, Jodhpur, Hangzhou, Tokyo, Kyoto, Singapore and beyond. Mediterranean cities included – and let’s talk about Tuscany/Florence some other time.

My book, which I am currently working on, discusses what it’s like to live in a post-colonial world. My family hails from a post-colonial region themselves.
Stay tuned.
